Liam Liam Agnew

From Vancouver, British Columbia. Liam graduated in 2017 from the Outdoor Recreation Management program at Capilano University in BC, and just got back from three months travelling in New Zealand. His favourite activities include cooking, reading, and playing board games. Great Moment in Camping: “Hiking for two months on the Te Araroa Trail, covering the 1307.7km length of New Zealand’s South Island.” Liam will be leading trips and working on site this summer.  This is his twelfth year at camp and third year on staff.

 Sam Angel

From Ottawa, Ontario. Sam, is working on his masters in Experimental Surgery at McGill University.  Over the years Sam has developed a passion for cooking and doodling. Great Moment in Camping: “Finally reaching the confluence of the Thelon and Hanbury rivers on my VII”. Sam will be leading VII this summer. This in his eleventh year at camp and his sixth year on staff.

From Hódmezővásárhely, Hungary. Minka is studying to be a teacher, with a focus on English and German.  Her favourite activities include all forms of art, reading, cycling and meeting new people.  She is well travelled and eager to see as much of the world as she can.  She is still quite new to the camping world, and is ready to collect as many memories as possible.  Minka will be working in the kitchen this summer.  This is her second summer at Wanapitei.

From Toronto, Ontario. Grant is working at the downtown Mountain Equipment Co-op in Toronto. He was a drummer in a steel pan band that participated in festivals in Australia, Scotland and Italy. Great Moment in Camping: “One of my favorite camping memories was day 12 on VI. We had just completed the hardest 12 days of tripping I’ve ever had through various “creeks”, log jams, and a swamp. Then at the end of the “Creek That Shall Not Be Named” the sun came out we got to really paddle for the first time in almost two weeks and the feeling of accomplishment, even halfway through trip, was awesome!” This is his 12th year at camp and his sixth year on staff.

Megan BuchkowskiMegan Buchkowski

From Peterborough, Ontario. Megan took the year to work in Ottawa and travel to New Zealand after finishing her Masters in Music, Mind and Technology in Finland.  In New Zealand, she hiked the length of the South Island and then helped out at an Bed and Breakfast in Hokitika. Her favourite activities include cooking, hiking, learning about psychology and experimental baking.  Great Moment in Camping: “Fighting off wekas in New Zealand. To imagine a weka, picture a chicken dressed as a duck with red eyes. They are voracious and supremely confident. They will steal anything from you. Luckily for us, we only lost a bag of  toilet paper. The weka grabbed it from an open pocket in my pack and ran off into the forest at high speed. I suppose that weka was quite disappointed the bag contained no food. It was always fun battle to keep them away from our food and important equipment.”  Megan will be our Chateau Chef this summer.  This is her 12th summer at Wanapitei and her eighth year on staff.

Molly Callow

From North Wales, United Kingdom.  Molly is studying Geography at the University of Liverpool.  Great Moment in Camping: “Camping in the countryside of Wales with my friends.”  Molly will be our Arts and Crafts Instructor and is excited to meet all of our creative campers.  This is her first summer at Wanapitei.

 

 

Connor Cepella

Connor Cepella

From Ottawa, Ontario. Connor is a graduate student at Dalhousie University in Halifax, NS. He will be working with the Inuit of NunatuKavut this spring to explore pathways to sustainability through renewable energy. Connor loves to paddle with family and friends, which he has been doing for as long as he can remember. Great Moment in Camping: “Coming under the bridge after leading my very first trip at Camp Wanapitei.”  Connor will be leading VI this summer. This will be his 14th year at camp and his sixth year on staff.

FraserFraser Cepella

From Ottawa, Ontario, his favorite activities include canoeing, kayaking (he spent this year working and paddling around Asia), a good book and good food.  Great Moment in Camping: “Any night spent watching the Northern Lights dance across the sky. Last year’s ballet on the Kognac River, was particularly delightful.” Greatest Moment in Camping: “Watching my campers take on adult life with confidence,  and skills brought to them by this program.” Fraser will be leading Canot du Nord and VI this summer. This is his 16th summer at Wanapitei and his sixth year on staff.

Em Clarke

From Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina.  Em studied Art Fundamentals at Seneca at York University.  Her favourite actives include volunteering at GaLs Tabletop Gaming helping LBGTQ+ youth develop interpersonal relationships through gaming.  Great Moment in Camping: “Sunset on the Barrens near the end of my VII, which was special neither in its redness or its lateness, but in the warm firelight glow it painted the best friends I’ve ever had. Em will be working in our kitchen this summer.  This is her 8th summer at Wanapitei and third year on staff.

From Kitchener, Ontario.  Perry is studying Commerce at Carleton University in Ottawa.  Great Moment in Camping: “It would have to be on my VII when for the first five or six weeks of the trip it was always daylight because of how far north the trip was.” Perry will be leading trips and working on site this summer. This is his fourth year at Wanapitei and his first year on staff.

 

Taj DysonTaj Dyson

From Guelph, Ontario. Taj is studying Physics at McGill University in Montreal, Quebec, and is working with a team of researchers on an autonomously powered radio telescope. His favourite hobbies include biking, coding (for fun or for school), and Magic the Gathering. Great Moment in Camping: “It was day 2 of my first Junior trip. One of my co-leaders, Emmerson, was away on business when a storm started. Ruairi and I sheltered the children in the girls’ tent, then heroically began moving our kitchen away from the stream developing within it. Ten minutes (that seemed like six each) and many puddles later, the rain finally let up, and the most phenomenal rainbow appeared over the lake. We rushed all the campers out to see it, and all hoped Emmerson hadn’t sunk.” Taj will be leading trips and working on site this summer. This is his seventh year at Wanapitei and his second year on staff.

LizLiz Evans

From Calgary, Alberta. Liz completed a degree in Enviromental Engineering at Western University in Ontario and spent the last 4.5 months travelling in South America. Her favourite activities include skiing, hiking and petting all dogs.  Great Moment in Camping: “Experiencing every amazing sunrise and sunset while backpacking and canoeing.” Liz will be leading trips and working on site this summer.  She has worked in camping for three years, and this is her first summer at Wanapitei.

Megan FarleyMegan Farley

From Ottawa, Ontario. Megan graduated from Nepean High School and is looking to take a gap year to work and travel. Her favourite activities include spontaneous adventures, cooking, and reading a good book.  Great Moment in Camping: “Canoeing through Killarney with my family in the middle of the night, without headlamps, all in one canoe.  We put a hole in the front of our canoe after paddling, full speed, straight into a rock… we didn’t laugh about it then but we certainly do years later!” Megan will be helping at the Chateau in August.  A former camper at Wanapitei, this is her second year on staff.

Jacob Fischer

From Toronto, Ontario. Jacob is studying Philosophy at Trent University in Peterborough. His interests include musical theatre and cooking. Great Moment in Camping: “When I returned after my evac on my VII, seeing my group’s genuine excitement to see me return and realizing that they missed me as much as I missed all of them.” Jacob will be leading trips this summer. This is his 13th year at camp and his third year on staff.

From Toronto, Ontario. Residing in the city of Halifax, Severen is currently studying Contemporary Studies at the University of King’s College and Latin American Studies at Dalhousie University. Her favourite activities include reading, sudoku, and conversing. Great Moment in Camping: “Although there are many, a favourite moment in camping was, as a Temag camper, getting to stay up late with my leaders and watching an overwhelming number of shooting stars pass through a particularly dark sky.” Severen will be leading trips this summer. This is her 11th year at camp and her fourth year on staff.

From Toronto, Ontario. After a year of travelling, Gabe will be starting at the University of British Columbia in the fall to study Forestry.  His favourite activities include playing most sports and coaching hockey.  Great Moment in Camping: “Paddling under the Bridge after VII.  Sharing the experience with my 10 closest friends on the planet, while seeing my friends and family was surreal.” Gabe will leading trips and working on site this summer.  This is 11th summer at camp and his first year on staff.

From Aurora, Ontario.  Jack is studying Human Kinetics at the University of British Columbia: Okanagan Campus.  His favorite activities include playing running, hiking, and pretty much anything outdoors.  Great Moment in Camping: “Taking a nap while Sam read to us in the middle of the day on James Bay.”  Jack will be leading trips and working on site this summer.  This is his 11th year at camp and his third year on staff.

From Richmond Hill, Ontario.  Logan is just returning from a semester studying abroad in Australia.  Her favourite activities include reading, yoga and snow boarding.  Great Moment in Camping: “My greatest moment in camping was one of the final days on V2 when we were paddling on the Arctic Ocean. It was a pretty windy day and we soon realized that the weather gods had blessed us with a tail wind, so we decided to open up a large camp tarp and use it as a massive sail across all the canoes. We sped along the ocean on this beautiful sunny day and pretended that we were pirates conquering the Arctic waters.”  Logan will be leading trips and working on site this summer.  This is her seventh year at camp and her third year on staff.

Emma photoEmma Gibson-Bray

From Kingston, Ontario.  Emma studied Child, Youth and Family Studies at the University of Guelph and has a Bachelor of Applied Science. Her favourite activities include all things outdoorsy, singing and playing ukulele, travelling and cuddling her cat.  Great Moment in Camping: “Setting the record for fastest circumnavigation of Gambier Island (in canoes) on the Howe Sound. 33 hours in total for the trip – 18 hours of paddling in 24 hours!.”  Emma will be leading trips and working on site this summer.  This is her second summer at Wanapitei.

Eamonn GoganEamonn Gogan

From Toronto, Ontario.  Eamonn is a graduate of the University of Guelph with a B.A.S. in Biochemistry and History and is currently finishing up his M.A. at McGill, where he studies History. Eamonn is an avid “collager” and enjoys spending his free time at camp in the arts and crafts building working on his next masterpiece.  Great Moment in Camping: “Paddling into Moosonee on my Bay Trip.”  Eamonn will be leading trips this summer.  This is his seventh year at camp and his fifth year on staff.

OliviaOlivia Gordon

From Toronto, Ontario. Olivia has just completed her second year at Concordia University majoring in Communication Studies. Her favourite activities include skiing, camping, and film. Great Moment in Camping: “Canoe paddle boarding on a snow cap on V2.” Olivia will be leading trips and working on site this summer. This is her eighth year at camp and her third year on staff.

 

Henry GouldHenry Gould

From Toronto, Ontario. Henry is studying Engineering Physics at Queen’s University. His favourite activities include climbing, pickup sports, and adventuring. Great Moment in Camping: “Our second day on VII, we paddled around a point just east of Kugluktuk, Nunavut, only to find the bay packed with ice. We then spent two days paddling around and hopping from ice flow to ice flow, until the mouth of the Rae River.” Henry will be leading trips this summer. This is his seventh year at camp and his fourth year on staff.

Pearce GouldPearce Gould

From Toronto, Ontario.  Pearce is studying at the Desautels School of Management at McGill University in Montreal.  His favourite activities include rugby, skiing, travelling and learning guitar. Great Moment in Camping: “Finally reaching our height of land on VII and realizing we were done our upstream.  I was super excited to finally be able to paddle and swim in deep water!” Pearce will be leading trips and working on site this summer. This is his eighth year at camp and second year on staff.

AliseAlise Grant

From Ottawa, Ontario.  Alise is studying Commerce at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia.  Her interests include social entrepreneurship – she recently returned from Vancouver where she presented on a social enterprise start-up she is developing.  Great Moment in Camping: “Reaching the top of a mountain after a seven-day portage on our VII in 2016.  There was snow!” Alise will be working in the camp office this summer. This is her seventh year at Wanapitei and her first year on staff.

Tom HarrisonTom Harrison

From Leeds, England.  Tom graduated from Keele University in Staffordshire, England with a degree in Geography.  His favourite activities include travel, watching and playing soccer.  He is a Leeds supporter.  Great Moment in Camping: “Camping on on Kokoko lake at the end of last season, the perfect way to finish off a summer working at Wanapitei.” Tom will be helping in our kitchen this summer. This is his second year at Wanapitei.

 

Riley HeavensRiley Heavens

From Montreal, Quebec. Riley is studying Social Sciences at Dawson College.  Her favourite activities include painting and photography. Great Moment in Camping: “I was with a couple friends and we just laid on the grass and watched the stars for hours.” Riley returns to be our Nanny this summer, taking care of Charlie. This is her third summer at Wanapitei.

 

Thomas HeinrichThomas Heinrich

From Montreal, Quebec. Thomas is a Design student at Concordia University. He loves building things, drawing, biking and playing guitar. Great Moment in Camping: “Paddling into Tuktuyaktuk at the end of VII. At the moment I just felt a mix of amazement at what we had just accomplished and sadness that this unbelievable experience was already over. We had just spent 52 days in one of the most beautiful and remote places in the world, had seen things few people have had the privilege to see and pushed ourselves to limits we didn’t think we could reach. I think it was only when we touched down on the muddy beach in Tuk, that we realized what we had just accomplished.” Thomas will be assisting our Trip Director, Kai Bruce, for the month of July. This is his seventh year at camp and his third year on staff.

Great Moment in Camping: “Seeing the Northern Lights on my VI.” Molly will be leading trips and working on site this summer. This is her ninth year at camp and her third year on staff.

 

Alex HodginsAlex Hodgins

From Perth, Ontario. Alex just graduated Queen’s University where he studied Global Development. He has worked as a river guide in New Zealand, studied on exchange in Australia and volunteered with Canada World Youth in Indonesia, as well as travelled through Europe this fall. Greatest Moment in Camping: “At the start of every summer coming to the head of the Jack Pine trail feeling the breeze rising from Lake Temagami, seeing Mount Ferguson off in the distance and realizing that I am home.” Alex will be leading a VII trip this summer. This is his 18th year at camp and seventh year on staff.

From Perth, Ontario. Frieda is graduating this spring after studying Medical Sciences at Dalhousie University in Halifax. Her favorite activities include camping, climbing, painting, photography, volleyball and canoeing. Great Moment in Camping: “Finally reaching our downstream on VII when there was just enough water for us to sit on the deck plates of our canoes and push off shore on either side as we twisted down a little mountain stream remarkably fast.” Frieda will be leading trips this summer. This is her fifteenth year at camp and her fourth year on staff.

Morgan Hodgins

From Guelph, Ontario.  Morgan is finishing her last year of Nursing at the University of Ottawa.  Her favorite activities include outdoor sports, running, skiing, biking, climbing and swimming. Great Moment in Camping: “When I was 12 I went on a family canoe trip down the French River to our cottage just outside of Killarney on Georgian Bay. On our second last day we had to go around a very exposed section of land leaving us vulnerable to the wind and weather. We decided to wake up at 4am while the water was still calm to do this safely. By the time we were on the water the sun was just rising behind us shadowing us in its red light, while the water looked like glass. I still love getting up before sunrise because of the peace and calmness that we rarely experience while in the city.” Morgan will be leading VI this summer. This is her 18th year at camp and sixth year on staff.

From Fernie, British Columbia. Cori-Anne has an undergraduate degree in animal biology from the University of British Columbia. She has just finished her first year of veterinary school and hopes to be a wildlife veterinarian when she graduates. Her favourite activities include playing hockey, volleyball, and travelling around the world. Her Great Moment in Camping is: “Paddling out into James Bay at 3am in the pitch black and frosty cold. Everyone was quiet and in their own thoughts when the northern lights lit up the sky above us. There were strands of green, white, red, and blue dancing against the complete darkness. The whole group was in awe and it made the night an incredible paddle.” Cori-Anne will be leading V2 this summer. This is her 19th summer at camp and her sixth year on staff.

Kim huismanKimberley Huisman

From Fernie, British Columbia. After two years at Concordia, Kimberley is about to take a gap year which includes a volunteer project in Belize. Her favorite activities include hockey – she has been playing since she was four years old, and for several years at the competitive level for both mens and womens teams. Great Moment in Camping: “On V2 when a group of about five of us decided to hike up the hill behind our campsite on the creek that was our upstream section. It was steep and for a while it seemed never ending but then all of a sudden we emerged above the treeline and the view was unbeleivable. We could see the creek behind us that we had travelled up for the past week aswell as the lake that was our goal up ahead. It was also our first peek at the mountains all around us, which were incredible. It was so exciting and it really made us realize that all our hard work was definitely worth it and we could fully appreciate where we were headed and what we had done.” Kimberley will be leading trips this summer. This is her 16th year at camp and fourth year on staff.

Adrian HutchinsonAdrian Hutchinson

From Paris, Ontario.  Adrian is studying architecture at Laurentian University in Sudbury, Ontario.  His favourite hobbies include rock climbing, mountain biking, drawing and photography.  He also hosts a radio show during the school year.  Great Moment in Camping: “Staying up all night watching the watching the Northern Lights while tree planting in Northern Saskatchewan or down river saunas all along the Dumoine River. ” Adrian will be leading trips and working on site this summer.  This is his second summer at Wanapitei.

Ian KarovitchIan Karovitch

From Ottawa, Ontario, Ian is studying Bioresource Engineering at McGill University. His favorite activities include guitar, swimming, rock climbing, downhill and cross-country skiing, and canoeing.  Great Moment in Camping: “On a family canoe trip I did in August just a week after returning from camp in July. Not only was the trip extremely fun because I brought my dog with me, but I realized that I had all the skills and knowledge needed to have a seamless trip that could only have been acquired from years of tripping. That was a satisfying feeling.” Ian will be leading trips and working on site this summer.  This is his eleventh year at camp and his second year on staff.

Dana King

From Brampton, Ontario.  Dana is studying English and Psychology at the University of Ottawa.  Her favourite activities include visual arts, culture, music and literature.  Great Moment in Camping: “Seeing the Northern Lights on VII.” Dana will be leading trips and working on site this summer.  This is her 7th year at Wanapitei and her first year on staff.

Máté Kovacsics

From Budapest, Hungary. Máté is studying to teach English and Hungarian Language and Literature at Károli Gáspár University of the Reformed Church in Budapest.  His favourite activities include reading, running and hiking. Máté will be working with campers and in our kitchen this summer.  This is his first year at Wanapitei.

 

 Cameron MacPhailCameron MacPhail

From Vancouver, British Columbia.  Cameron is studying Biology at Queen’s University. His favorite activities include rugby, canoeing, rock climbing and biology.  Great Moment in Camping: “The last night on VII, going swimming in the Arctic Ocean and enjoying my final hours at the edge of the world.” Cameron will be leading trips and working on site this summer.  This is his twelfth year at camp and third year on staff.

From Toronto, Ontario.  Kai is starting a carpentry apprenticeship in Toronto in the fall, and spent his spring tree planting near Dryden. His favorite activities include rugby, rock climbing, hockey, sailing, white water kayaking and travel.  Great Moment in Camping: “Every year at Wanapitei has made me fall deeper in love with camping and paddling, and I’m always grateful for the time spent outdoors.” Kai will be leading trips and working on site this summer.  This is his eighth year at camp and his second year on staff.

Hannah Magowan

From Melrose, Scotland.  Hannah will be studying Chemistry and Education at Strathclyde University in Glasgow, Scotland.  Her favourite activities include dance and net ball.  Great Moment in Camping: “Canoeing in France or sitting around the campfire at nighttime.” Hannah will be leading trips and working on site this summer. This is her first year at Wanapitei.

 

  OwenOwen Melanson

Owen was born in Ottawa, Ontario and has lived internationally in Italy, Costa Rica and Barbados.  Owen has a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and has completed his Cambridge English Language Teaching for Adults (CELTA) certification. He is taking courses at the University of Guelph with the goal of attending teacher’s college in the future. He helped organize and set the Guiness World Record for highest altitude hockey game played (14,400 ft.) in the Greater Himalayan mountain range.  Great Moment in Camping: “Sleeping at the base of the highest active volcano in the world in Cotopaxi, Ecuador. We watched as the sunlight left the mountain range and the stars appeared in the cloudless sky. The next morning, I unzipped the tent flap to watch the volcano catch the first light of sunrise.”  Owen will be leading trips this summer.  This is Owen’s eigth year at camp and sixth year on staff.

From Ottawa, Ontario. Mark graduated this spring from Mount Allison University with a degree in English Lit. He loves climbing trees, singing and dancing, and general silliness. Great Moment in Camping: “This wasn’t camping per se, but it was great. While leading a group of students in team building activities, I suddenly felt that we should drop what we were doing and go for a walk in the woods. After a few minutes of trekking, we stumbled upon a moose jaw, which amazed the kids. Moments later, Logan, one of the students, decided to teach us all how to find salamanders, and showed us the tunnels some worms dig in fallen over trees. I could never have predicted any of that would happen. We went to the woods, and we were amazed!” Mark will be leading one of the VII trips this summer, regarding which he says “waaahoooooooooo.” This is his 11th year at camp and 6th year on staff.

 Maria Page

From York, United Kingdom and Kenya.  Maria will be starting a degree in Chemistry in the UK this fall.  Her favourite activities include running, rock climbing and spending time outdoors.  Great Moment in Camping: “In Kenya, when elephants walked straight through our campsite; it was a special moment and made me appreciate how lucky I am to have lived in such an incredible journey.” Maria will be leading trips and working on site this summer.  This is her first year at Wanapitei.

JackJack Panayi

From Yellowknife, Northwest Territories.  Jack will be studying Canadian Studies at Carleton University this fall.  His favourite activity is cross-country skiing.  Great Moment in Camping: “Seeing a polar bear from a helicopter on the last day of VII.” Jack will be leading trips and working on site this summer.  This is his fourth year at Wanapitei and first year on staff.

 

Laura Peberdy

From Erin, Ontario. Laura is studying Global Health, Immunology and Contemporary Asian Studies at the University of Toronto.  Her favourite activities include embroidery, knitting and cycling.  Great Moment in Camping: “On VI, we had a very long day and got to the campsite late.  Kai and Tess (my leaders) made us some very tasty potato soup.  As we finished eating it, we saw the Northern Lights.” Laura will be leading trips and working on site this summer.  This is her 5th year at Wanapitei and her first year on staff.

Sasha Pickering

From the Bay of Fundy, Nova Scotia.  She enjoys art galleries, live music, good coffee and being in the woods. Great Moment in Camping: “I can’t say I have one. When I think about camping, I think about the little things I love. Waking up to sunshine, listening to the pelting of rain on the tent, blissful silences in the canoe and looking for moose in a swamp.” Sasha will be leading VII this summer.  This is her tenth year at camp and her sixth on staff.

 

Ethan Rajaratnam

From Toronto, Ontario.  Ethan is studying Medical Sciences at Western University.  His favourite activities include running, hiking, soccer and reading.  Great Moment in Camping: “About a week into VII, we were supposed to portage through some pretty dense alders, so two of my friends and I started clearing a path with our large knives.  We barely got anywhere, after a few hours and ended up taking a helicopter over our overland, but it was a lot of fun!” Ethan will be leading trips and working on site this summer.  This is his 6th summer at Wanapitei and his first year on staff.

BernardBernard Rechico-Moisan

From Ottawa, Ontario.  Bernard is currently living in Kamloops, BC ,studying Tourism Management at  Thompson Rivers University. His favorite activities include climbing, skiing, and anything else outdoors.  Great Moment in Camping: “On V2, we had a 5-kilometer portage in between these two mountains. We had been lake hopping for a few days now so we were pretty tired and this was our last big portage. When we got to the top of this pass, the sun was setting and we could see all the way to the Coppermine. After all the hard work we had done, reaching that lookout felt like such a big accomplishment. It’s these kinds of things that make the trip great.”  Bernard will be leading trips and working on site this summer. This is his 12th year at camp and fifth year on staff.

From Ottawa, Ontario.  Alex is studying Architectural Engineering at Carleton University.  His favourite activities include reading, skiing and drawing unusual buildings.  Great Moment in Camping: “That would have to be the first few days of VII. We had a brief ocean paddle between Kugluktuk and the mouth of the Rae, and most of it had become packed with drift ice. The adventure of working and dragging the canoes across a sea of ice floes made for an unforgettable experience.”  Alex will be working on site this summer.  This is his 11th year at camp and his third year on staff.

BrigidBrigid Roeder

From Ottawa, Ontario. Brigid is working on her Bachelor of Education at McGill University. Her favourite activities include playing guitar, watching hockey, and learning new things. Great Moment in Camping: “A crappy, dreary, rainy day, a brutal, muddy portage, and some campers who just started having a hoot playing in the mud! A great reminder to appreciate the moment, and of why we do this.” Brigid will be leading trips and working on site this summer. This is her fourth year at Wanapitei and her third year on staff.

Ruari Smith

From Toronto, Ontario. Ruari is studying Contemporary Studies and French at the University of King’s College in Halifax. Her favourite activities include reading, horseback riding and working on her uncle’s farm in Greece during the spring.  Great Moment in Camping: “Tripping on the French River with my dad many years ago! I was little enough not to really know what to expect and spent the days paddling with my dad and some of our family friends.” Ruari will be leading trips this summer.  This is her second year on staff at Wanapitei.

Anna Szelényi

From Budapest, Hungary.  Anna is studying to be a teacher, focusing on English and Hungarian at Karoli Gaspar University in Hungary.  Her favourite activities include exploring nature, yoga and running.  She is also interested in languages and is currently learning Portuguese.  Great Moment in Camping: “I am ready to collect as many memories as possible from my first camp – Wanapitei!”  Anna will be running our sailing program this summer.  This is her first year at Wanapitei.

Helen ThomasHelen Thomas

From the Toronto, Ontario.  Helen is doing a Masters degree in Medieval Archaeology at the University of York, England. Her favourite activities include swimming, reading, cooking, snuggling with her cats, and watching baseball.  Great Moment in Camping: “Last year in Radisson, we got to go on a tour of the largest underground generating station in the world. It was some top-notch infrastructure.” Helen will be leading VII this summer. This is her 16th summer at camp and her sixth year on staff.

Lucas WhitearLucas Whitear

From Scarborough, Ontario.  Lucas is studying to be an HVAC Technician at George Brown College in Toronto. His favourite activities include playing rugby, paddling, camping and being up at the cottage. Great Moment in Camping: “On my V2 when my group did the Dubawnt Canyon portage. It was super long and the buggiest place ever but it was such a spectacular view that none of it mattered. Once we got to the half way mark we all through off our bug jackets and took a ton photos with the crazy canyon in the background”.  Lucas will be leading trips and working on site this summer. This is his ninth summer at camp and his second year on staff.

EmmersonEmmerson Wilson

From Ottawa, Ontario.  Emmerson is studying biology and economics at St. Francis Xavier in Nova Scotia.  Her favorite activities include canoe tripping, cooking, playing guitar, rugby, hammocking and spending time outside.  Great Moment in Camping: “One of my greatest moments in camping has to be waking up to snow on my birthday (July 20th) last summer. It was super cold but also an awesome gift from nature.”  Emmerson will be leading trips and working on site this summer.  This is her 11th summer at camp and her third year on staff.

From Nelson, British Columbia.  Cian aspires to attend the Emily Carr School of Art and Design.  His favourite activities include rugby, sailing, canoeing, snowboarding, hiking and all forms of art.  Great Moment in Camping: “On my V2 after a particularly hard day, my fellow campers and I, when we got to our camp site, started just running around this island we where camping on. for no reason what so ever, we just ran with caribou antlers we had found earlier that week. It was such a pure moment that was pointless but so important.” Cian will be leading trips and working on site this summer. This is his 5th year at Wanapitei and first year on staff.

Hannah Wood

From Bognor Regis, South England.  Hannah will be studying Geography at Lancaster University in England in the fall.  Her favourite activity is travelling – she has recently been to Spain and Poland and is going to travel around Canada after camp.  Great Moment in Camping: “My GMIC was on my gold Duke of Edinburgh award while hiking in the Breacon Beacons National Park. On my third day of the expedition my team and I all woke up on a campsite in the valley with a view of the sunrise over the mountains above. We all just sat there eating our porridge with very sore legs and appreciate the incredible nature around us.”  Hannah will be leading trips and working on site this summer.  This is her first year at Wanapitei.
