Wanapitei is located at the remote northern arm of Lake Temagami and is not accessible by road in the winter. In the spirit of "getting there is half the fun," we offer a 45-minute Snowmobile Shuttle past Lake Temagami's famous shoreline for $68 per load (2 people plus gear).
If you fancy romance, consider taking the Northlander Train from Toronto's Union Station. It's beautiful and avoids long winter drives. Contact Ontario Northland at 1-800-268-9281 or visit www.northlander.ca for schedule and ticket info. The train arrives at 1:00 am; we can arrange overnight accommodation in Temagami. Snowmobile shuttle from downtown Temagami to Wanapitei is $150 per load.
If you want to drive to Temagami, it is located 96 kilometres north of North Bay on Highway 11 (a 4.5 hour drive from Toronto or Ottawa). Coming from the south, turn left on the Lake Temagami Access Road (6 km south of Temagami), drive 16 km to Lake Temagami and park at the municipal landing.
If you wish, you can continue on the ice road to Bear Island. Our snowmobile shuttle will meet you at either location. Alternatively, it is 18 kilometres from Bear Island to Wanapitei by ski, snowshoe, dogsled or snowmobile. Navigation skills are required if you take this route. Contact us for directions!
Regardless of how you choose to get here, please contact us a day or two before arrival to confirm your transportation plans!
