Each September, students, staff, faculty and alumni from Trent University and elsewhere meet at Camp Wanapitei, on the shores of beautiful Lake Temagami in Ontario, to canoe, hike, share food, and engage with ideas that matter to them. This unique event celebrates original research. Presentations on an eclectic range of topics from environmental history of Ontario's Near North, to indigenous worldviews, to the politics of surfing, taking place in the evenings. Days are spent on the land. The weekend is also about sharing: among Canadian, Aboriginal, and international students of diverse backgrounds; and among students and teachers of different disciplines. The sharing of traditional skills, music and dance (including a Saturday night square dance!) is another highlight. These activities take place in conjunction with the annual Aboriginal Studies Colloquium, enabling participants to attend a variety of panel discussions and presentations on current Aboriginal issues. The Trent Temagami Weekend takes our studies out of the classroom and onto the land. The result is an enriching experience that brings many of us back year after year. We hope you and your friends can join us! This event is open to all Trent students, faculty, staff, and alumni. However, there is only space for 100 participants, so register early! A special invitation is extended to international students!! For details on location, directions and what to bring, please see
